Inkosi Mhlabunzima Maphumulo House: As we are approaching the Easter Holiday and Passover weekend, we have decided to launch an intensive and multi-disciplinary road safety campaign tomorrow, 11 April 2025 under Mandeni Local Municipality.
This is the period associated with a high rate of road accidents and fatalities.
We reiterate our enduring efforts aimed at reducing the number of road accidents and fatalities. In this regard, our work will be augmented by law enforcement agencies from Gauteng, Free State, and Mpumalanga provinces.
Tomorrow I will unveil a road safety plan involving our highly efficient team from the Road Traffic Inspectorate.
We will work jointly with traffic departments from municipalities as well as with the South African Police Service, Traffic Departments, Home Affairs, Customs and Excise, Road Traffic Management Corporation, and Border Management Authority.
We are projecting an increase in traffic volumes with an estimated figure of above 1500 vehicles per hour passing through our tollgates starting from the 17th of April in the afternoon.
Many people will be visiting various tourism destinations, and others will attend services to celebrate the resurrection of Jesus.
The launch will take place as follows:
Date: 11 April 2025
Time: 09h00
Venue: Just After Mandeni Toll Plaza, N2 Freeway
It should be remembered that last year we were in this area following a horrific accident involving a truck and a car. Seven young stars lost their lives.
There have been multiple accidents in that stretch of road, with the latest resulting in the death of seven members of the Twelve Apostles Church in Trinity.
On Saturday, 12 April 2025, we will have an interfaith prayer involving religious leaders, worshippers, traditional leaders, and the community at large in EMaromeni Sports Field in Ward 03 – few kilometres away from the N2.Ends
