23 suspects netted for contravention of Immigration Act and for possession of gold bearing material respectively

23 suspects aged between 18 and 47 were arrested at Nkanini informal settlement, Simile in Sabie on Saturday, 05 April 2025 during the rolling out of Operation Vala Umgodi in Mpumalanga. Amongst the suspects, 20 were charged for contravention of the Immigration Act of South Africa whilst three were charged for possession of gold-bearing material.
Members from Combat and Proactive environments, as well as Phoenix Security, carried out this intelligence driven operation and confiscated several items, including gas cylinders, gold-bearing material, and other illegal mining equipment.
The suspects are expected to appear at the Sabie Magistrate's court on Monday, 07 April 2025, facing the said charges.
