A 37-year-old suspect, Sabelo Nkosi, was remanded in custody by the Barberton Magistrate’s Court today, 26 March 2025, for possession of explosives.
Nkosi’s court appearance follows his arrest on Tuesday, 25 March 2025, when Visible Policing (Vispol) members were patrolling along Three Sisters Road. Officers spotted a white Toyota Avanza with three occupants and requested to conduct a search.
During the search, explosives were found inside a green Nike bag in the possession of the suspect, who identified himself as Sabelo Nkosi from Kamashayana, Low’s Creek. Upon questioning, Nkosi informed the police that he was transporting the explosives to Embayane Mine.
He was arrested and charged with possession of explosives. His case has been postponed to 07 April 2025, at the same court for a formal bail application.
The Acting Provincial Commissioner of the SAPS in Mpumalanga, Major General (Dr) Zeph Mkhwanazi, welcomed the arrest and commended the dedicated efforts by Police officers in ensuring that any criminality is dealt with whenever it rises its ugly head.
