On 18 March 2025, members were alerted to the kidnapping of a 20-year-old student from Lenasia, JHB.
The victim is the son of Yaseen Bhiko, who was kidnapped in 2022.
Upon arrival at the scene, the response team conducted interviews with witnesses and reviewed CCTV footage from both the immediate location and surrounding areas.
It was further noted that a white Volkswagen Amarok was involved in the kidnapping. The same vehicle had previously been linked to an attempted kidnapping of Cassim Bobat on 1 March 2025. He is a key witness in the 2022 kidnapping of the victim’s father.
Intelligence gathering led to the identification of the suspects and the vehicles involved.
Yesterday, members located and recovered the white Volkswagen Amarok in a residential parking area in Sandton.
Surveillance footage confirmed that the identified suspects had parked the vehicle at that location.
Acting on further intelligence, members proceeded to the suspect’s residence in Lenasia, where the identified individual was successfully arrested.
He complied with law enforcement and pointed out the house where the victim was kept.
Members arrested two suspects at the house located in Elandsfontien, south of Johannesburg.
The suspects further identified an additional suspect who was arrested in Lenasia.
The victim was assessed by medical teams and reunited with his family.
Sources say one suspect is out on bail on another kidnapping case.
