The members of Operation Vala Umgodi in Limpopo nabbed nine undocumented foreign nationals, one illegal miner and confiscated different equipment including an abandoned truck, during operations conducted on Monday, 24 March 2025, in five districts of the province.
These ongoing operations aimed at eradicating the illegal mining activities, resulted in the arrest of nine suspects for contravention of the Immigration Act.
Meanwhile, a 36-year-old male suspect was arrested for illegal mining of sand at Wayeni Village, Ritavi River in the Waterval Policing area. According to the report, the members received information about illegal mining activities in the area. They accurately followed the information, and the suspect was spotted mining sand. Upon approaching him, he failed to produce a valid mining permit. During the arrest, the Police confiscated three shovels, one pickaxe, and a white Nissan truck.
Another white tipper truck was found abandoned at a separate location in Tshimbupfe Mavhulani Village in the Vuwani Policing area.
The suspects will appear before the local Magistrate’s Court soon.
