ATNS goes digital

South Africa's Air Traffic and Navigation Services SOC Limited, an entity of the Department of Transport, successfully migrated from its old analogue-based Voice Communication Control System (VCCS), to a digital Voice Communication Switching System (VCSS) today.
This historic milestone took place at FAOR, this afternoon.
The new VCSS is an internet protocol (IP) based system. Due to a technology push, most organisations have since moved to IP-based technology. ATNS is no exception.
ATNS is keeping up with the latest technologies, primarily as a strategic pathway to integrate seamlessly with other modern systems, especially within the ATM environment, as well as to exploit the innumerable benefits of operating within a digital space.
"The new system will improve flight safety, accessibility, maintainability, reliability, capacity, and operational efficiency," says ATNS CE, Ms Nozipho Mdawe
