Head-on collision on the R61 near Umtamvuna Bridge

This afternoon Kwazulu Private Ambulance Service responded to the R61 near Umtamvuna Bridge for reports of a collision.

When emergency services arrived they found that a truck, 2 bakkies and a car had been involved in a collision. A bakkie and car had been involved in a severe head on collision resulting in the occupants to become entrapped.

Paramedics quickly assessed the scene and found 3 patients had sustained critical injuries of which one was a child approximately 10 years old. 2 further patients had sustained serious injuries, of which one was a 4 year old child. 

The patients were treated on scene before being transported to hospital for further treatment.

Sadly tho 6 occupants sustained fatal injuries and succumbed to their injuries before emergency services arrived. 1 of which one was a young child.

The cause of the collision is not known, but authorities are investigating.
