Deputy Minister of Transport, Ms Sindisiwe Chikunga, together with the National Chairperson of the South African Network for Women in Transport (SANWIT), Ms Mary Phadi will officially launch the KwaZulu-Natal Provincial Chapter of the organisation on Monday, 14 November 2016.
The event will be attended by 300 women delegates from the various regions of the province.
On the day, elections to elect the provincial leadership structures of the KZN Provincial Charter of SANWIT will also be held. The elections will be presided over by the Independent Electoral Commission (IEC).
The launch and elections of SANWIT KZN Chapter comes after a consultative conference which was held to establish a coordinating team that will assist with the elections.
SANWIT was established in order to deliberate on issues that affect women and how women empowerment will be achieved within the transport sector.
Additionally, the Empowerment Programme aims to address challenges and celebrate the achievements of women in the sector.
Among others, SANWIT aims to create dialogue, listen to and address key issues affecting women in the transport sector.
