
The Deputy Minister of Transport, Ms Sindisiwe Chikunga will visit the Langlaagte Driving License Testing Centre (DLTC) on Friday, 14 October 2016.
Ms Chikunga will do an inspection in loco visit, interact with customers and centre managers at the Langlaagte DLTC as part of the on-going October Transport Month campaign.
The Deputy Minister will be joined by officials from the Department’s entity the Road Traffic Infringement Agency (RTIA), Gauteng Department of Roads and Transport and Johannesburg Metro Police during the visit.
RTIA will render a mobile customer information services under “Know your traffic fine” status on site. This campaign is aimed at reaching out to road users and remind them of the options they have under the AARTO Act which are:
Make a representation to dispute a traffic fine;
Nominate a driver;
Apply for revocation of an enforcement order;
Arrange to pay for infringements in instalments; or
Nominate to be tried in court.
The AARTO Act exists to:
• Influence voluntary compliance with traffic laws and penalise and rehabilitate infringing behaviour.
• Encourage improved driver behaviour and combat delinquency on our roads.
• Enhance motorists understanding of their rights and responsibilities under the administrative adjudication legislative environment for management of traffic offenses.
Later during the day, the Deputy Minister will proceed to Soweto to attend the career exhibition at Fontas Comprehensive Secondary School. The career expo has been organized by the Gauteng Departments of Education and Roads and Transport in partnership with the Universities of Pretoria, Johannesburg, Wits and Cape Town. The exposition offers learners an insight into transport related careers and bursary opportunities.
