Ballito N2 crash leaves 3 injured

05 January 2016 | Road Safety in the Media

At 15h06 Netcare 911 paramedic and Base manager from Ballito was driving along the N2 towards Ballito when he came across a two-vehicle collision that had just occured. Exact detail to the cause of the crash is still speculative and will remain a subject for the Police to investigate. However, a bakkie was traveling south on the highway when he veered across the centre median and hit a car in the side. Twisted frames of the vehicle came to rest in the grass verge about 50 meters apart, with the driver from the car still trapped in the crumpled remains of his vehicle.

Fortunately the advanced life support paramedic was on the scene just after it happened and was able to treat the critically wounded man and call for his vehicles that arrived on the scene within minutes. After triaging the injured it was found that three people was injured, one critically and two with serious injuries.

While the Kwadukuza fire department and Netcare rescue unit used the Jaws of Life to free the patient, the paramedics clambered into the wreckage to stabilise a man in his thirties. One of the seriously injured patients was transported to hospital by the Provincial ambulance service while the other seriously injured man was transported with one of the Netcare 911 ambulances.

After the critically wounded man was immobilised on a trauma board they removed him from the wreckage and then transported him to hospital under the constant care of a Netcare 911 advanced life support paramedic.
